John Hancorn - Director
John Hancorn has had an illustrious career in the world
of Opera, Oratorio, recital and consort work. In addition to his busy concert
diary, he has now established a firm reputation as a choral director and vocal
animateur. He is Music Director of the East Sussex Bach Choir and Sussex
Baroque Players, with whom he has directed many performances of baroque and
classical choral repertoire. He is also closely associated with the Brighton
Early Music Festival, and with Deborah Roberts is co-director of the Bremf
Singers, with whom he has conducted Monteverdi "Vespers", Bach
"B Minor Mass" and Handel "Israel in Egypt". In a more
contemporary vein, he has directed the Orlando Consort in Tarik O'Regan
"Scattered Rhymes", and the world premiere of Orlando Gough's opera, "The
Finnish Prisoner" for the Paddock in Lewes. He also was assistant
conductor in the recent Brighton Festival production of John Tavener "The
Veil of the Temple". Future projects include Ed Hughes "Song for St
Cecilia", Handel "Acis and Galatea", and Bach "St Matthew
Passion " Good Friday 2009. John is
also music director of Eastbourne Choral Society and The East Sussex Academy of
Music “Academy Voices". John regularly leads vocal workshops and
masterclasses, and is on the staff at Trinity College of Music, and Christ’s
Hospital. He directs chamber choir courses at Dartington International Summer School,
where he will also direct Bach "Christmas Oratorio" in summer 2009,

Bury is a founder member and regular leader of the Orchestra of the Age
of Enlightenment with which she regularly appears and records as
leader, soloist and director. As leader of the OAE she is usually to
be found at Glyndebourne Festival Opera for performances of the operas
of Handel and other baroque composers. In the 2007 season, the led the
OAE in the Glyndebourne dramatisation of Bach's St Matthew Passion. Alison Bury is also a leader of the English Baroque Soloists and has taken part in numerous recordings and toured in Europe, Australia, the U.S.A. and the Far East, including the Millenium Tour of Bach's Cantatas. Alison Bury started playing the baroque violin while a student at the Royal College of Music. After completing her studies there she won a Boise Scholarship to study at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Sandor Vegh and Nikolaus Harnancourt. While in Austria she performed and recorded with Concentus Musicus of Vienna. Alison also plays with the Raglan Baroque Players and accompanied them on their visit to the Baroque Music Festival in Australia. Recent chamber music activities include performances of the Beethoven Septet with other members of the English Baroque Soloists and recitals with harpsicordist Nicholas Parle. She coaches at the Early Music Wales summer school and is the director of the
Baroque Orchestra at the Royal College of Music where she is professor of
